MARC JACOBS STEPHEN SPROUSE

7/200

Stephen Sprouse is widely regarded as the artist and fashion designer who brought counterculture style to a broader American audience. A high-profile member of New York's art, fashion and music scene, he rose to prominence in the early Eighties with his revolutionary fusion of uptown sophistication and downtown punk sensibility, gritty street style and glamorous high fashion. He was invited by Marc Jacobs to collaborate on Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2001 collection, where the now legendary and collectible graffiti bags were an instant sell-out. After being diagnosed with lung cancer, Sprouse died of heart failure in 2004 at the age of 50. His legacy continues to inspire today.
