Olu Odukoya is an artist and creative director, specialising in bespoke creative projects in the worlds of both contemporary art and luxury fashion. He is the founder of the international creative agency OMO, Inc. He is the publisher of the luxury biannual bookzine Modern Matter, which combines high-quality print production and design with the hypermodernity of an online aesthetic, and works with regular contributors and collaborators including Hans Ulrich Obrist and Juergen Teller. Selected projects include two special-edition publications for Hauser and Wirth; a series of books with the artist Oscar Murillo, including with David Zwirner Books; a major retrospective publication with Sarah Lucas and Sadie Coles Gallery; and a book with the award-winning artist Isaac Julien inspired by his Looking For Langston project, published in association with Victoria Miro. Working with Demna Gvasalia, Odukoya also provided art direction for Balenciaga's A/W 17 campaign, including the direction of a short fashion film inspired by the idea of the Duchampian readymade, Revolving Doors. His previous projects include the large-format art magazine Kilimanjaro.

About the project

"Luggage, in addition to being built to hold our most essential items, often holds another, rarer thing: the possibility of pleasure and adventure. A trunk by Louis Vuitton, timeless in its aesthetic and enduring in its construction, can be the only travel companion a jetsetter might need - as faithful and as elegant as it was when it was first designed two centuries ago, it can see you from Toronto through to Timbuktu, from Paris to Peru, and home again in style. Based on one of my original sculptures that depicts an exaggerated, abstracted human figure, the concept for 'Travel Companion' is intended to draw focus on the relationship between the inveterate traveller and their luggage, the two presented together in a mutually-supportive embrace. For two hundred years, the Louis Vuitton trunk has been the traveller’s best friend, a masterpiece of both design and engineering. No globetrotter with an eye for the refined could ask for more."
