Alex Proba's creativity explores emotion as a celebration of colour, pattern and positive stimulation of the senses. The designer draws from the everyday for her designs and artwork: visuals, sounds, smells and memories. She applies the same processes to her mural work, bringing life and energy to walls and buildings, as she considers all angles and sides equally. Her first mural project, a 60-foot long piece for Dropbox's headquarters in New York, propelled her practice into new realms. Recently, she’s extended her mural practice onto unexpected surfaces, like the bottoms of pools and collections of tile. Born in Germany into a family of doctors, Proba went on to study Spatial Design (architecture and graphic design) at Akademie Mode und Design Hamburg, Germany, and Contextual Design (furniture & product) at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Netherlands. In 2011, Proba moved to New York, where she worked as Art Director at Kickstarter and as Design Director at Mother New York. Alongside a permanent position as Art Director at NIKE, the designer's portfolio includes brand work for Mociun, as well as Harry’s and Google among many others.

About the project

"This piece was inspired by Louis Vuitton and our shared love of texture, material, and craftsmanship. My playful yet distinct use of color and shape makes her interpretation of the iconic LV trunk an exclusive object that is uniquely my own. Packed tightly and carefully into place these individual shapes come together as one cohesive whole. This celebration of form and color evokes the idea that even though we are all different we are actually also all the same."
